DIGITAL FORTY FOUR can be received on the same equipment as all Free-to-Air Digital TV services.
The two most common ways of doing this are:
Via a Digital TV - Most new televisions are capable of receiving Digital TV broadcasts. This type of TV - an Integrated Digital TV (iDTV) - has a built in digital receiver. No other equipment, apart from an antenna, is needed to receive Digital TV on an iDTV device.
You can determine whether your existing TV has an integrated digital receiver by simply establishing whether it receives ABC2 as a terrestrial service (i.e. via your TV antenna). If you can, then your TV is digital and should be able to receive DIGITAL FORTY FOUR.
Using a Set-Top Box (STB) - If you have an older type of TV with an analogue receiver (or tuner) you will need to either:
- upgrade to a new TV with an iDTV; OR
- obtain a Set Top Box (STB). This box is connected to the house TV antenna and the TV set and decodes the Digital signals. It outputs video and audio signals (pictures and sound) that are then fed into any TV with video and audio inputs (usually red, white and yellow connectors on the back of the TV set).
