WHAT IS DATACASTING AND OPEN NARROWCASTING?

Datacasting and open narrowcasting are forms of free to air digital terrestrial television which are limited by legislation to:

  • in the case of datacasting, providing information, educational and advertising content
  • open-narrowcasting, content that is either restricted appeal or limited audience reach.
Datcasting and open narrowcasting services are received by viewers via a standard digital television receiver (either an integrated digital television set or a digital set-top box).

The DIGITAL FORTY FOUR services not only offer the functionality of traditional television services but also of new information based services utilising the capacity for a viewer to select at will from a range of “interactive” menus to obtain the information they are seeking.
